In recent years, the turfgrass industry has been facing a reduction in skilled staffing, growing environmental restrictions, and the rising cost of maintenance. While these concerns have grown, turfgrass research and extension support has diminished substantially with the loss of university positions across the country. Strengthening the teaching research and extension programs State University’s Department of Horticulture will assist the industry in meeting tomorrow’s challenges.

The Oregon Turfgrass Foundation has is committed to fundraise a $1 million dollar endowment to add a second Turf Management Professor focused on research at Oregon State University. The endowment ensures this position will be supported perpetually with annual support of $40,000 annually for operating funds for the OSU Turf Management Program. To match this, the OSU College of Agricultural Science is committing to provide the annual salary for the 9-month tenured professorship. The Oregon Turfgrass Foundation has raised $450,000 toward this $1 million and is seeking a donor(s) to provide the remaining $550,000.

The Oregon Turfgrass Foundation intends to provide matching funds annually for this person’s salary.

This state-of-the-art facility will include space for outreach and education, as well as testing facilities, offices, laboratories, and equipment storage space for research specific to golf, sports, municipal, residential, and commercial turfgrass
